Call for nominations: The Arvid Carlsson Award 2023

Arvid Carlsson Award by Sahlgrenska Science Park 2023 is now open for nominations. This marks the 7th consecutive year an entrepreneur within life science will be recognized at the Park Annual event in Gothenburg.

Co-founded by Nobel laureate Arvid Carlsson and Sahlgrenska Science Park in 2017, the award celebrates innovation and knowledge in conjunction with good entrepreneurship.

”The Arvid Carlsson Award was a fantastic opportunity for increased visibility as a young medtech startup. The award is important in lifting forward startups that have the potential for meaningful societal impact,” says Filip Peters, award winner 2022 for turning smartphones into heart failure monitoring devices with his company Acorai.

At the event Park Annual by Sahlgrenska Science Park on 9 November, he will hand over the trophy to the new award winner.

Nominate your candidate

Making a nomination is easy.  Just click the link or send an email to arvidcarlssonaward@sahlgrenskasciencepark.se to provide the name of the nominee, contact details and your justification. Nominations are being accepted through 5 October.

What the jury is looking for

The prize is awarded to an entrepreneur who drives development forward for people’s health and welfare.

The ambition is to give recognition and honour to promising and future entrepreneurs in academia, healthcare and industry to stimulate continued learning and networking in the global arena that is life science.

The jury 2023 consists of previous winners of the Arvid Carlsson Award: Héctor Martínez, BICO (CELLINK), Kristina Lagerstedt, 1928 Diagnostics

Jens Nielsen, BioInnovation Institute, Anna-Carin Olin, PExA AB, Anders Hyltander, Surgical Science and Filip Peters, Acorai together with: Marianne Dicander Alexandersson, Chairperson, Sahlgrenska Science Park, Annica Grimberg Lignell, Director Innovation & Business, Sahlgrenska Science Park.

What does the prize consist of?

In addition to honours and diplomas, the prize consists of a challenge prize as well as participation in an international conference including travel and accommodation. Lessons learned from the conference may be presented afterwards in conjunction with a lecture for entrepreneurs and companies at Sahlgrenska Science Park.

About Arvid Carlsson

Arvid Carlsson was awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine in 2000 for his discoveries concerning neurotransmitters in the nervous system. In addition to a key role in research and medicine, he was also a true entrepreneur, playing a pivotal role in the Sahlgrenska Science Park community for many years.

HealthTech Award 2023 open for application

​​​​​​​HealthTech Award, celebrating healthtech innovations that make a difference for people’s lives, is now open for companies in the Nordics.

This is the 3rd edition of the award by GREAT, Vitalis and Sahlgrenska Science Park, recognising innovative companies providing a healthtech solution or product that has a proven positive impact on healthcare, prevention, prediction, health and/or quality of life.

The award is open for applications from today through 14 April and the winner will be announced at the opening of Vitalis, the largest e-health event in Scandinavia, on 23 May 2023.

After the ceremony, ten selected finalists are invited together with the winner to give a 3-minute pitch at Vitalis.

Last year, Detectivio won the HealthTech Award in tough competition.

“A great acknowledgement that we are relevant, valuable and on the right track. It increased our credibility and encouraged our team,” says Stefan Malmberg, CEO, Detectivio.

The prize consists of:

  • Tailored innovation session with IT and business consulting company CGI, focusing on how to improve speed and value from the innovation process Value 50 000 SEK
  • A strategy workshop with Tech Consulting Company HiQ, tailored to the winning company’s digital needs. Value 50 000 SEK
  • Expert legal advice with law firm MAQS Value 50 000 SEK
  • Present at one of GREAT’s events during 2023
